White Paper: The Technical Direction of the National Data Center
Date: 9/17/2008
National Data Repositories Conference in Cape Town, South Africa
National Data Centers (NDCs) are evolving both technically and in the
breadth of their application to subsurface resources. Having grown
from National Data Repositories (NDRs) in the 1990s, NDCs offer a
centralized, consolidated means of leveraging data about any asset of
importance to a government or region. Rather than a purely technical
description of the evolution of the NDC, this paper casts the technical
capabilities of the NDC in terms of key sources of value.
Emerging Web-based technologies are
also discussed in terms of enabling
new services and business models
for the NDC.
