Advancing HSE through behavioral sciences

Embracing the power of behavioral science, SLB is reshaping its health, safety, and environment (HSE) function. Our commitment is to ensure that every aspect, from processes and tools to programs and communications, is meticulously designed with end users in mind and adheres to key human performance principles. The integration of behavioral insights is aimed at maximizing impact and fostering user-friendly practices.

In of 2023, behavioral science took center stage, providing coaching and mentorship to key decision makers, leaders, HSE managers, specialists, and subject matter experts. This initiative was a strategic move to enhance understanding of human performance principles skills in behavioral insights and behavioral science methods, ensuring a comprehensive understanding across the HSE spectrum.

SLB's behavioral science approach transcended internal spheres, making waves at conferences and customer workshops. Notable appearances include SPE Offshore Europe and customer-facilitated contractor management sessions at safety forums in Baku and Cairo. These global platforms underscored our commitment to knowledge-sharing and collaborative safety practices.

A pivotal initiative in 2023 was SLB's global project, aiming to embed behavioral science principles and human performance factors into our investigation process. The creation of a guided investigation tool emerged as a cornerstone, facilitating quality investigations, and promoting impactful insights from events. This initiative is an ongoing commitment to continuous learning.

Beyond the global scope, SLB conducted pilot studies of the behavioral science methodology at various locations. These studies played a crucial role in helping teams develop and evaluate local interventions, ultimately influencing safety behavior positively.

The infusion of behavioral science into our HSE practices signifies more than a strategic move; it reflects SLB's unwavering commitment to proactive safety measures, continuous innovation, and the acknowledgment of the pivotal role of human factors in shaping a safer work environment.
