Overview

The Techlog Wellbore Stability module comprises mechanical earth model (1D-MEM) building, wellbore stability, sand management, and fracture stability computation.

When the inclined stress option is chosen the user can bring in a full stress tensor from a 3D finite element simulation. The evaluation of stable and unstable fractures will work in exactly the same way as the principal stress workflow.
In Fracture Stability the user can choose between principal stress and inclined stress input. For inputs without available log data the input is automatically switched to an parameter. The option is available to run the computation considering the effect of depletion.
Input to fracture stability is a dip data set containing dip and azimuth of fractures and/or faults. If a dip data set exists in a well it will automatically populate the Dip Input tab. Additional fracture orientations can be added within the Dip Input tab as well as completely new Dip data sets.
Fracture stability provides a logview and stereonet plot output. In the logview the input data (log and fracture orientations) are displayed. The output of the algorithm use the evaluation of the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion fore each fracture orientation. Green values display stable and red values display unstable orientations.

  • Techlog Wellbore Stability is fully real time, enabling updates on drilling-related geomechanical risks such as losses and stuck pipe.
  • Sand management helps to predict the sanding potential of weakly consolidated reservoirs. This helps to optimize drawdown pressures and perforation sizes and orientations.
  • Fracture stability is enabled for critical stress analysis to predict the contribution of discontinuities during production considering depletion and injection.
Benefits

The 1D-MEM is the backbone of every geomechanical workflow for which it provides the stress field, pore pressure, and mechanical properties. Integrated stress analysis is available as part of the Geomechanics and Advanced Acoustics Suite to calibrate the stress field orientation and horizontal stress magnitudes from multiple measurements.
