Using the PowerDrive Orbit™ rotary steerable system, Coterra Energy achieved exceptional performance in the Permian Basin, drilling every section in a single run to increase ROP by 37% and save 9 days.

In the demanding drilling conditions of the Permian Basin, characterized by high levels of shocks and vibrations, Coterra Energy aimed to complete each production section in a single run.

The PowerDrive Orbit rotary steerable system withstood shocks and vibrations to achieve exceptional performance in the production sections at the Red Hills pad. This effort led to the Red Hills 203H well becoming the fastest well drilled in Lea County to date for slimhole sections, with optimal drilling dynamics resulting in a 9-day saving from the planned AFE timeline. Additionally, the production section record saw an improvement in below rotary table (BRT) days from 5.2 to 4.01 days and an ROP increase of 37%. Tool longevity was achieved without compromising trajectory control in tandem with a dedicated road map aimed at optimizing drilling performance at each stage of the lateral section runs.
