Real-time downhole wired drillpipe control
NeoLink™ real-time downhole wired drillpipe control provides a safer, more efficient, and more sustainable well construction operation with closed loop automation and instant bidirectional interaction downhole. Instantly implemented commands replace conventional downlinking to improve performance and accelerate the transmission of geosteering, logging, and drilling data for improved decision making, reservoir understanding, and asset production.
Additionally, the system enables deploying multiple LWD tools in the directional drilling BHA in real time, eliminating previous limitations caused by the bandwidth of conventional mud pulse telemetry systems. NeoLink wired drillpipe control enables remote execution of downhole commands without interfering with the drilling process. Closed loop automation with low latency further enhances surface and downhole automation workflows.
Equipped with the latest generation of SLB drilling dynamics sensors, NeoLink wired drillpipe control delivers instant insights into dynamics and motion at tool and BHA level while drilling. The system features new-generation building blocks for faster intraBHA tool communication. This enables the redesign of future downhole technologies to leverage all benefits of the wired drillpipe (WDP) network.
WDP is an intelligent drilling system where each joint has an inductive coil in the pin and box ends to enable high-speed connectivity to downhole tools. The NeoLink wired drillpipe control connection to the WDP is located in the SLB directional drilling BHA. The integration of these technologies improves data quality, data density, geosteering, reservoir mapping, reservoir understanding. The NeoLink wired drillpipe control has digital solutions to help identify complex drilling mechanics issues such as borehole instability or stuck pipe, which are not always detected by downhole tool sensors or that occur above the lower BHA.
Traditional WDP systems use an interface sub as part of the directional drilling BHA just to stream data faster. NeoLink wired drillpipe control improves on this by delivering bidirectional interaction between the directional drilling BHA, IntelliServ wired drill pipe network, and industry-leading digital platforms.
