The annual E&P Special Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation honor engineering excellence and achievement in the upstream petroleum industry. 

The 2015 awards recognize technologies and new products that demonstrate innovation in concept, design and application. Schlumberger was awarded for technologies in four categories:

Drillbits

The StingBlade Conical Diamond Element Bit, by Smith Bits, a Schlumberger company, improves footage drilled and rate of penetration while maintaining greater toolface control and minimizing shock in challenging drilling applications that can cause impact damage to conventional bits.

Drilling Systems

The GeoSphere Reservoir Mapping-While-Drilling Service represents the industry's first-ever LWD technology that maps oil and gas reservoirs while drilling, which has a depth of investigation exceeding 100 ft [30m] and reveals subsurface layers and fluid contacts to increase production potential.

Exploration

The Petrel 2014 user experience, the latest release of the Petrel E&P software platform, introduces a new user interface, which is configured in a logical, workflow-driven layout to keep the user focused on interpretation and data to boost productivity. 

Water Management

The EPCON Dual Compact Flotation Unit introduces an engineered internal design that incorporates residual flotation gas in a secondary separation stage, increasing oil-in-water (OIW) removal efficiency while fully degassing the clean water outlet.
