The annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), virtually brought together industry leaders from around the world to exchange ideas on shaping the future of the energy sector alongside technical experts to share knowledge with their peers.
Excellence in energy, digital innovation, sharing technical best practices, and looking to the industry’s future were among the Schlumberger highlights at this year’s virtual ADIPEC.
During a strategic panel session, Schlumberger CEO Olivier Le Peuch shared his vision for the industry’s new value creation through performance progress and step change in efficiency by leveraging digital technology and collaboration. He also reinforced the need for the industry to elevate the narrative and commitment to decarbonization and participate actively in the energy transition, ensuring the sector continues to attract talent and capital.
This year’s ADIPEC, now in its 36th year hosted in the UAE, provided an occasion to highlight a historical milestone: it was 70 years ago, in 1950, that Schlumberger engineers performed their first log in the UAE at the Ras Sadr-1 well. Schlumberger is proud to celebrate its shared history with the UAE and remains dedicated to further developing basin-specific technologies tailored for industry challenges throughout the region.
At the online technical sessions, over 90 papers co-authored by Schlumberger experts were presented to share industry best practice, technical expertise, applications, products, solutions and services.
The annual ADIPEC Awards showcased excellence and innovation by spotlighting individuals, initiatives, and technologies that have contributed to the industry’s transformation on a global scale. Schlumberger’s commitment to innovative technologies and collaborative teamwork was recognized with award wins in two categories.
The Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Technical Excellence to the Oil and Gas Industry, over the course of a career, was presented to Dr. Oliver C. Mullins, a Schlumberger Fellow and member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He leads a newly codified discipline, Reservoir Fluid Geodynamics, which uses downhole fluid analysis and asphaltene science to achieve novel reservoir evaluation.
The Digital Transformation Project of the Year Award, for the most value enhancing implementation of digitalization across the value chain, was presented to Schlumberger in partnership with ADNOC for the “Intelligent Integrated Sub-Surface Model—Maximizing the Value of Abu Dhabi’s Hydrocarbon Resources.”
Just ahead of the opening of this year’s conference, Schlumberger signed a framework agreement with AIQ, a joint venture of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and G42, an Abu Dhabi-based cloud computing company, to collaborate on development and deployment of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data solutions. This collaboration brings together data scientists, software engineers and domain experts to work together on the development of technical solutions to accelerate digital innovations for the industry.
