Equinor has transformed the way they work and operate on a Field Life eXtension (FLX) asset with the goal of becoming a leading late-life operator. DrillPlan™ coherent well planning and engineering solutions and DrillOps™ intelligent well delivery and insights solutions have been key technologies in enabling this change

In 2019 the production profile indicated that production from the asset would cease around 2022-2025. A new business plan was put in place with high planning drilling activity to extend the life of the asset beyond 2035. To enable this, the FLX team needed to develop new ways of working and introduce automated workflows.

One of the first steps taken on the FLX asset was to introduce a one-team mentality between Equinor and its array of service providers (of which SLB was one). A planning and operations center was introduced with clear bi-directional handover procedures for both operations and learnings.

Equinor transferred their planning process to DrillPlan solutions, enabling collaboration and standardization of their templates. The open-source API in DrillPlan solutions enabled integration of data between other digital solutions for a continuous end-to-end workflow.

DrillOps predictive analytics and DrillOps performance insights are now utilized in the operations center to provide real-time support and optimize operational performance.

Overall, the project has resulted in significant efficiency savings, with planning time reduced by 80% allowing for a 40% increase in the time spent on improving well designs. This has fed into operations with a 200% increase in well delivery and an almost 50% cost reduction per well
