Background
An operator drilling through claystone and sandstone in Thailand added Aegis™ 3D-printed armor to an 8½-in bit to improve durability, hydraulics, and cuttings evacuation efficiency in the soft formation. The bit was equipped with Hyper™ hyperbolic diamond cutting element and a Lo-Vibe™ depth of cut control insert on the gauge to improve impact resistance. The combination improved cuttings evacuation and achieved 40% faster rotating ROP than a conventional bit.
