Background
In the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, Emir Oil Company planned to drill an 8 1/2-in horizontal sidetrack well (K-13) in the Kariman field. A previous well in the same field was drilled with seven competitor roller cone bits, requiring multiple trips out of hole. A StingBlade conical diamond element bit was chosen for its high point-load concentration and cutter durability. The operator drilled the sidetrack interval to TD with a single StingBlde bit.
