The FORM-A-BLOK pill reduced the dynamic loss rate from 18 to 1.5 m3/h.
The FORM-A-BLOK pill reduced the dynamic loss rate from 18 to 1.5 m3/h. Before the pill was pumped, a total of 235 m3 of fluid had been lost into the formation. The pill cured the losses in 6 h as opposed to 5.2 days for a 95% time savings.

Background

While drilling in the Hartha Formation, a major operator incurred total losses. An offset well was delayed for more than 5 days while curing similar losses with cement plugs, so the operator sought a more efficient solution for the new well. M-I SWACO proposed squeezing a FORM-A-BLOK high-performance, high-strength lost circulation pill into the thief zone to prevent further losses and strengthen the wellbore sufficiently to enable the operator to continue normal pull-out-of-hole operations and run 9 5/8-in casing to section TD of 2,122-m MD.
