The 2023 Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards, held on Oct. 11, recognized the energy industry’s leading innovations and thought leaders. Three SLB technologies in a range of categories were acknowledged with the prestigious honor.

"This year, we received hundreds of entries across the oil and gas landscape," said Lee Nichols, Vice President, Content for Gulf Energy Information. "Just being nominated is a feat in itself, but winning is a testament to the incredible technologies SLB continues to bring into the upstream marketplace. These awards showcase how companies such as SLB are creating a safer, more efficient and sustainable industry."

SLB’s 2023 Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards winners include:

Best Controls, Instrumentation, Automation Technology – Upstream: Intelligent Power Management

The predictive power management system reduces emissions, fuel consumption, and engine run time on the rig through a combination of automated software, energy storage system, and hydrogen.

Best Exploration Technology: Automated Lithology

The technology enhances lithological accuracy by delivering precise digital representations of layers, fractures, traps, and pockets. Artificial intelligence-driven machine learning enables users to capture and transmit high-resolution digital images of rock color, grain size, grain sorting, roundness, oil show, visual porosity, fossils, and special minerals.

Best Oilfield Fluids and Chemicals: EcoShield geopolymer cement-free system

The geopolymer cement-free system minimizes the carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint of a well’s construction, eliminating up to 85 percent of embodied CO2 emissions compared with conventional well cementing systems such as portland cement. The EcoShield system has the potential to avoid up to 5 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually—the equivalent of removing 1.1 million cars from the road each year.
