Electric submersible pumps, or ESPs, are the most frequently used tool for extracting well fluids in the oil industry’s artificial lift sector, but in geothermal applications, typical oilfield ESPs have limited applicability due to the challenges associated with high-enthalpy wells. A new system, designed for high-temperature, high-power applications, has been successfully deployed in Europe, transforming the potential application of ESP technology in enhancing the use of geothermal resources for sustainable energy production.
