The Hi-Ex gauge hanger high-expansion through-tubing tool supports the downhole deployment of data acquisition devices on slickline during well testing and production monitoring, particularly in nonmonobore wells. It can also be used as an anchoring device to support other downhole equipment, such as swellable packers and fluid samplers, or to deploy cement plugs during well abandonment.
Its slim chassis design with high-expansion capabilities enables deployment through narrow restrictions or smaller completion tubing and setting in larger-diameter liners and casings. Once at the required depth, an SLB or third-party setting tool activates the gauge hanger tool, expanding its arms and centering it in the tubing. The tool is securely anchored in the well using bidirectional slips. Its efficient design minimizes flow restrictions, enabling high-quality data to be recorded during production or injection. Using adapter kits, the tool’s high-expansion mechanism can be set in tubing sizes from 4.5 to 9 5/8 in.
An external fishing neck pulling tool enables swift retrieval. Once latched, light upward jarring unsets the tool, retracting the arms, which then disengages it from the tubing. The Hi-Ex gauge hanger tool can then be recovered to surface, along with any gauges that may have been deployed.
