Course description |
Progressing cavity pumps (PCPs) have proved themselves to be a highly effective form of artificial lift in applications with heavy oil, produced solids, or both. Their range of applications has expended to include high-temperature environments, gassy wells, and medium or light oil production. We will briefly look at the history of the PCP and examine what a PCP is and what makes it different from other forms of artificial lift. How a PCP is selected for an application will be reviewed, including its geometry, elastomer, and drive system (rods, centralizers, drivehead, etc.) Common problems with PCP systems, and their possible resolutions will be discussed. Finally, ESPCP systems will be discussed in detail, including their applications, advantages and disadvantages, and the design process. |
