Exposed perforating gun systems

High-performance capsule gun systems for through-tubing applications

Reliable Perforating Systems for Fracture-Stimulated Wells

Revive declining wells with exposed perforating systems

Exposed perforating gun systems, including capsule guns, are engineered to enhance well productivity by enabling precise through-tubing perforation. Ideal for wells experiencing production decline, these systems deliver reliable performance and are specifically designed for reperforation and well revitalization.

Optimize design for through-tubing perforation

Capsule guns, or “capsule-charge guns,” feature shaped charges sealed in pressure-tight capsules mounted on exposed carrier strips or links. This design enables the guns to operate seamlessly in small-diameter applications while delivering performance that often exceeds that of hollow carrier guns of the same size.

Flexible options for any operation

Capsule gun systems are available in two configurations to match operational needs:

  • Expendable systems: Charges and mounting assemblies are left as debris after firing, simplifying deployment.
  • Retrievable systems: Also known as semiexpendable, these systems recover the mounting assembly, leaving only debris where debris management is critical.

Some systems even offer selectivity options, enabling multizone perforating in a single run. Electric wireline and slickline conveyance options ensure flexibility for a range of well conditions.

Engineered for safety and performance

Every component of the capsule gun system, from the carrier strips to the charges and detonating cords, is designed to maximize performance and reliability. Built to withstand harsh well environments, these systems feature robust capsules capable of enduring vibration and mechanical impacts, ensuring the charges perform as intended.

All systems adhere to stringent SLB QA/QC standards and the secondary high charges used in loaded capsule guns allow for safer handling and transport under standard safety protocols.
