LUBE BXC

Concentrated brine lubricant

Schlumberger Oilfield Services

LUBE BXC concentrated brine lubricant is a cost-effective, high-performance lubricant designed to reduce metal-to-metal and metal-to-rock coefficient of friction in produced water and brine fluids. This top-performing lubricant significantly decreases torque and drag in challenging directional profile applications, such as high-angle and horizontal wells.

Recommended initial treatment for LUBE BXC lubricant is 1% by volume. Product concentration can be adjusted to achieve the desired reduction in coefficient of friction, torque, and drag. Periodic treatments should be carried out to compensate for depletion and to ensure the drilling fluid system delivers delivers consistent performance.

LUBE BXC lubricant is nondiesel-based and has environmentally acceptable properties. It has a minimal tendency to grease when exposed to a high-pH, high-hardness environment.

This lubricant can be readily added through the mixing hopper or directly to the suction pit if proper agitation is provided.

Applications

  • Horizontal land drilling
  • Highly-deviated well profiles

Advantages

  • Environmentally acceptable nondiesel-based lubricant
  • Friction, torque, and drag reducer increases ROP
  • Compatible with produced water and brines

Toxicity and handling

Bioassay information is available upon request. Handle as an industrial chemical, wearing protective equipment and observing the precautions as described in the safety data sheet.

Packaging and storage

LUBE BXC lubricant is generally packaged in 55-galUS [208-L] drums. Follow safe warehousing practices regarding palletizing, banding, shrink-wrapping, and stacking. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place. Store in original container. Avoid heat, flames, and other sources of ignition. To avoid ignition of vapors by static electricity discharge, all metal parts of the equipment must be grounded.
