The annual Underwater Technology Foundation (UTF) Subsea Award recognizes outstanding achievements within the subsea industry that have contributed to knowledge and understanding in subsea technology through new products, services or processes.
The 2016 winner is the Multiphase Compressor from OneSubsea, a Schlumberger company. The award recognizes the engineers behind the innovation, and their significant contributions in developing the technology.
The jury highlighted that the technology eliminates the need for upstream separation, and noted its ability for light vessel intervention as being among innovative steps contributing towards optimizing costs in subsea technology. The technology is also seen to have a global commercial potential for use on subsea gas fields.
The OneSubsea Multiphase Compressor is the world’s first and only true subsea wet gas compressor with no requirements for an anti-surge system, which greatly simplifies the subsea system requirements. The main driver in its development was to increase recovery rates and to cost-effectively increase the tieback distances of subsea gas fields.
