Detect and pinpoint inner pipe corrosion damage with real-time precision for the best intervention plans.
Vår Energi operates a dual-multilateral offshore well producing oil at a water depth of 380 m in the Barents Sea’s Goliat Field, 85 km northwest of Hammerfest, Norway. The operator wanted to verify tubing integrity to reduce the risk of TAC. Gas lift wells in the Goliat Field are at risk of TAC because the oxygen content in the gas lift, combined with high water cut, corroded the tubing in several wells.
The job was an ideal match for the SLB 2⅛-in high-resolution dual caliper, a first-of-its-kind 80-finger caliper qualified to deliver the best possible understanding of casing or tubing wear and pitting or holes in the tubing. The operation used a light well intervention vessel to perform a logging pass from 1,700- to 410-m MD to acquire caliper data and mitigate TAC-related production loss.
To cope with a severe well deviation (>89°), SLB used its TuffTRAC iX™ intelligent extreme wireline tractor to deliver the toolstring to the required logging depth with two WIReD™ wireline inline release devices—one above and one below the tractor—to release the toolstring in case of well control or other issues. A PS Platform™ production services platform basic measurement sonde was used to provide accurate depth control along with pressure, temperature, and gamma ray readings.
The result was a better understanding of tubing conditions in the targeted well to help the operator decide whether to proceed with intervention or decommission the well.
