Reliable, verified shifting in any direction to single or multiple components.
Using the ReSOLVE iX™ intelligent extreme wireline intervention service, a Kazakhstan operator cut intervention time to 28 h compared with the 80 h required for the same operation using coiled tubing.
As part of a log-soak-log operation for a conformance control completion program at an improved oil recovery (IOR) injector site, the operator needed to close one ported sleeve in an injection zone and open two ported sleeves in another. The operation was to be accomplished in a single run in the well’s 3½-in tubing.
The completion program also included five runs using the Pulsar™ multifunction spectroscopy service while displacing different kinds of fluid in the well through pressure stabilization. Wellhead equipment rated to 10,000 psi was used for the operation, along with coiled tubing (CT). The initial shifting run performed using CT took 80 h to complete. By using a more advanced shifting tool, the operator could have saved considerable time.
At the start of the intervention, the ReSOLVE iX service smart shifting tool (SST) was run in the well on a digital wireline cable to manipulate the three sleeves. Once the tool latched onto the sleeve profile, the anchor secured the toolstring in the well, and the linear actuator was extended and retracted to shift the component. The whole operation took 28 h with zero NPT.
Prior to the job, the wireline team had performed two successful system integration tests (SITs) that verified the ability to shift the premium port sleeves. During the job, clear indications were seen on the log that matched the results obtained during SITs.
The operator was impressed by the 65% reduction in operating time achieved using the ReSOLVE iX service. Following up on this success, the operator asked for a SIT to be performed for its 4½-in sleeves to support deploying the same solution in its horizontal wells.
