BSP previously used a wellhead system that encountered problems with debris, which led to 959 hours of nonproductive time (NPT). SLB recommended the Cameron SOLIDrill™ modular compact wellhead system, which maximized uptime and reduced debris in the wellhead.

From 2014 to 2018, BSP used a wellhead system that recorded multiple issues, resulting in 959 hours of NPT in the Champion West field in Brunei. Most of the failures were attributed to debris accumulation in pockets between the hangers and the housing.

The prior wellhead system was a single load shoulder design or a stack system. Internal components were installed atop each other. The system did not tolerate enough debris because inherent system pockets allowed debris accumulation. This prevented hangers from properly landing and hindered setting the pack-off (casing hangers and pack-offs not fully landed can lead to issues in the landing of the tubing hangers). This impeded setting the subsequent tubing hanger as intended. A misalignment of approximately 0.3° and upward movement of more than 3―4 mm leads to these issues being encountered. Consequently, the hanger tilted and the operator faced challenges retrieving the running tools (excessive pulling loads).

Eight SOLIDrill systems have been installed since May 2021 with 29 additional systems planned by BSP. BSP has recorded 0 NPT related to debris by using the SOLIDrill system.

"The installation procedures were very efficient, and our confidence in the position and reliability of installation was much higher because of the design features SOLIDrill system incorporates. Reliability and well integrity are also improved because of some key design improvements.”
