Wells drilled using the NeoSteer CL ABSS showed a significant improvement over the wells in the previous pad. The ABSS helped SRC Energy get to TD faster, saving as much as 20.8 hours in one well.

The operator’s goal

Drill the vertical, curve, and lateral sections in a single run as quickly and at the highest quality possible.

What they tried first

SRC Energy had drilled the 12 previous wells using a conventional BHA configuration with a rotary steerable system.

What Schlumberger recommended

The operator opted to use the NeoSteer CL ABSS instead because the ABSS is capable of drilling the pad faster than conventional systems.

What happened

SRC Energy used the NeoSteer CL ABSS to drill 12 wells on a pad in Weld County, Colorado. Leveraging the NeoSteer CL ABSS's hold inclination azimuth (HIA) capability alongside application-specific cutting elements from Smith Bits, a Schlumberger company, the operator drilled the 4 fastest wells in program history. Overall, the NeoSteer CL ABSS enabled more efficient on-bottom time through faster ROP, and the combination of electromagnetic telemetry and HIA completely eliminated survey time on the pad and maintained high data transfer rates.

A comparative analysis of all the wells in the pad showed that the wells drilled using the NeoSteer CL ABSS had significantly smoother boreholes.

The NeoSteer CL ABSS
