Oil and gas producers develop unconventional plays and explore deeper waters, exposing artificial lift equipment to harsher downhole conditions, including higher temperatures and pressures. The third generation REDA HotlineSA3 electrical submersible pump (ESP) for steam-assisted heavy oil recovery operations and geothermal applications can operate at up to 257 horsepower with a bottom-hole temperature of 482 degF. Over 150 SA3 systems have been installed between Canada and Oman. In Canada the 100th application milestone was surpassed in April of 2012. Operators are also looking to increase efficiency and reliability while providing higher production. The outdoor SpeedStar medium voltage drive (MVD) meets the NEMA 3R rating, making it the only MVD available for this market. The SpeedStar MVD eliminates the need to construct an air-conditioned building, and the materials that go along with it, thus reducing operating costs by eliminating the system’s dependence on heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
