Accurate flow rate monitoring in multiphase regimes is a challenge for many operators, particularly on space-constrained offshore rigs. This article explains how the Vx Spectra surface multiphase flowmeter facilitates the acquisition of production flow rates at high frequency. The single-point, full-gamma spectroscopy flowmeter eliminates both cross-correlations of multiple measurement points and empirical correlations for photon allocation in dual-energy technologies. Operators benefit from its modular design, compact size and expanded operational envelope for accurate flow measurements. The article also describes how a comprehensive evaluation process validated the accuracy and repeatability of this new generation flowmeter under a variety of flow conditions.
