While drilling its first hole in the North Karpovsky field, which is characterized by cherty limestone, the Greatwall Drilling Company used 10 bits to reach TD. The drilling contractor wanted to sidetrack off of the original hole, but it needed to improve ROP, increase footage per bit run, and mitigate downhole vibrations.
