A Caspian operator identified damaged sand screens in two zones of an openhole gravel-packed horizontal well. To avoid pulling the completion or plugging back the lateral, the operator decided to patch the damaged sections, which were 24 m and 48 m [79 ft and 157 ft] long, respectively. Coiled tubing (CT) was available to run expandable steel patches, but it had never been used to perform this operation at more than 4,000 m [more than 13,100 ft]. In addition, the riser limited maximum patch length to 14 m [46 ft].
