M-I SWACO, a Schlumberger company, proposed to pumping two 62.9 bbl [10 m3] pills with 31.9 lbm/bbl [91 kg/m3] FORM-A-BLOK AS acid-soluble lost-circulation pill added to unweighted seed mud. Circulation was performed at the top of the FORM-A-BLOK AS pill, increasing the flow rate gradually. Dynamic mud losses were reduced from 377.4 bbl/h [60 m3/h] to 12.6 bbl/h [2 m3/h].

背景

An operator set out to drill a delimitation well  and had some uncertainty related to the drilling fluid density to drill the interval. It was expected to start with a midrange density, but the operator expected partial to severe losses while drilling the ˜2,624 ft [˜800 m], highly fractured limestone interval. Mud losses generating NPT and extending the time to drill the section was a major concern. Mud lost to the formation using the proposed drill plan was 1,357.9 bbl [215.9 m3].
