SLB’s End-to-end Emissions Solutions (SEES) business has been awarded the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label by the Solar Impulse Foundation, which promotes the adoption of green technologies.
SEES was recognized for its technology-driven efforts to address the energy industry’s emissions from methane, a greenhouse gas (GHG) which has a climate change impact up to 84 times greater than carbon dioxide over a 20-year timescale and represents about half of the oil and gas sector’s operational emissions.
"Reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas industry is considered among the most urgent priorities in the global effort to address climate change and achieve net zero targets,” said Kahina Abdeli-Galinier, emissions business director, SLB. “As a global technology company, we are honored to be recognized by the Solar Impulse Foundation for the work we’re doing to address the industry’s emissions from methane and routine flaring around the world.”
SEES provides an end-to-end approach to emissions reduction tailored to a producer’s assets, operations and business economics. Its technology-driven solutions help producers measure, monitor, report, and ultimately eliminate operational methane emissions and routine flaring quickly and cost-effectively.
"In addition to the innovative technologies we develop in house, there are hundreds of technologies to measure and abate methane and monetize flare gas, and none of them are universally applicable,” Abdeli-Galinier said. “Selecting the right set of complementary technologies is required to address methane efficiently—and this is a big part of what we do to help the industry.”
SEES’ expertise stems from a century of engineering, measurement, and data management and reporting experience that leverages a legacy of deep engagement with operators, academics, and startups to stay atop emerging technologies.
The Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label is designed to highlight existing solutions that are both clean and profitable. The label is awarded to products, services, and/or processes that combine credible environmental and economic performance, while outperforming the mainstream options in its market.
To receive the award, a pool of external, independent experts evaluated SEES against five criteria: credibility, scalability, environmental benefits, client’s economic incentive and seller’s profitability. The initiative encourages the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-tracks the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.
The Solar Impulse Foundation is dedicated to accelerating the implementation of clean and profitable solutions. The foundation assists decision-makers in businesses and governments to achieve their environmental targets and adopt more ambitious energy policies, which are necessary to pull these solutions to market.
